Welcome to Reception!

What do Reception think about Ravensmere?

We asked the children in Reception to tell us what they thought about Ravensmere Infant School. This is what they had to say:

National RSE Day - June 2022

The children in Reception had a brilliant day celebrating National RSE Day. As part of the day they took time to consider what makes them special and unique.

Under The Sea Performance - May 2022

As part of our 'Under the Sea' topic, the children worked with a local performing arts specialist to put together a short performance based on their ideas. As part of Arts Week they made the fish and creatures for the performance out of cardboard and painted these with special ultraviolet paint so that they would glow in the dark during our performance. We hope you enjoy the performance!

Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night - January 2022

As a school we have been learning all about Vincent van Gogh and have been looking at many of his well-known works, in particular his Starry Night paintings. Reception created their own Starry Night pictures by mixing paint to create the background and then using combs to create the swirls in the sky. They then used pastels for the stars before finally cutting out black paper to create the silhouettes of chosen buildings in Beccles.

Whoops-a-Daisy Angel - December 2021

Beccles Christmas Tree Festival - November 2021

As part of this year's Christmas Tree Festival in Beccles, the children at Ravensmere read the story 'The Christmas Pine' by Julia Donaldson. They then reflected on the importance of family, friends and community at not only Christmas time, but all year round. They used lots of skills to make their Christmas tree shaped decorations and the little felt people to wrap around the tree.

The children then enjoyed a trip to Hungate Church to visit the Christmas Tree Festival and to see all of the other beautifully decorated trees.

Spot Bakes a Cake

The children have been reading 'Spot Bakes a Cake'. We made a bar chart to find out our favourite toppings, wrote shopping lists using our Phonic skills so we knew what to buy and then finally baked some cakes.

We've been thinking about animals that hibernate. We found out that hedgehogs hibernate and decided to have a go at making a home for them to do this!

Autumn - October 2021

We have been exploring all things autumnal this week. We have cut open a pumpkin to investigate what is inside, been on an autumn walk to collect treasures for our crowns and even had a go at some conker rolling art! When on our autumn walk we found a funny creature outside. We were so intrigued we googled it to find out more. It was a ladybird larvae!

We have also explored mark making with carrots and paint which has helped us with gripping small objects, explored using puffy paint and even delved into learning all about space. What a busy week it has been.

We hope you enjoy your half term holiday!

Ravensmere got a surprise this week as an alien spaceship crash landed in their playground!
